Once an instructor has required LockDown Browser for an exam, it is very easy for students to download, install, and use LockDown Browser to take their online test. The following steps guide a student through the process. Instructors can provide steps 1 through 4 of this article to students for guidance if necessary.
1. Download the LockDown Browser installer package. Depending on the browser setting, it may download as "InstallLDBPackage64c-2-0-x-xx.zip" where "-x-xx" is the current version number.2. If the downloaded file did not automatically unzip, locate "InstallLDBPackage64c-2-0-x-xx.zip" (usually in the Downloads folder), and double click on the file to start the Archiver to unzip the file.3. Locate the "Install Respondus LockDown Browser xxxxxxxxx.pkg" to start the actual LockDown Browser installer. 4. Accept all the default prompts to install LockDown Browser.5. Go to Finder->Applications and double click on the "LockDown Browser" icon (a world globe with padlock) to start LockDown Browser.

The Respondus LockDown Browser (RLDB) is a locked browser that prevents students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. When the RLDB is enabled for a quiz, students will be required to download and use RLDB to take the quiz or exam. Watch an overview video on LockDown Browser.
When students land on the quiz page of a RLDB enabled quiz, they will be provided a link to download RLDB. Students will not be able to access (start) the quiz until they are accessing the quiz page from the RLDB.
Note: Chromebooks are supported with limitations. Please refer to your instructor to see if iPads are allowed for your quiz as this setting must be enabled by the instructor. Students can also download the RLDB app for their computer or iPad using the links below.
Yes! Administering a practice exam before having your students take an actual quiz or test in RLDB will allow them to test their equipment and learn to use the system in a no-stakes setting. As of LockDown Browser 2.0.1.07 for Windows, accessibility is enabled for all users. Improvements to accessibility were added to version 2.0.3.00 for Windows. Please have all students on Windows platforms upgrade to version 2.0.3.03 and newer. The Windows version of LockDown Browser allows a student to use some screen reader accessibility programs, such as NVDA, JAWS, MS-Windows Narrator, ReadSpeaker webReader, and Windows-Eyes. In our experience, NVDA works the best. NVDA is free and available to download.
LockDown Browser (LDB) is a completely separate browser not a plug in. After downloading the LDB, the student needs to open the LockDown Browser software (found in applications) and access the exam through that browser. If the student is getting a message saying to download LDB, then they are still accessing the exam through a normal browser like Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari.
To download and install these software applications, students will need administrative access (i.e. be the owner or have admin rights) on a Windows or Mac computer with an up-to-date operating system and an Internet connection. Note: Chromebooks are not compatible with learning software.

From the mySIUE screen, click the LockDown Browser tab.
Click on the --Download Respondus LockDown Browser-- link.
On this page, click the Install Now button.
The install file will download for your operating system (Mac or Windows). If you are installing LockDown Browser on a Chromebook, follow these instructions.)
Locate the install file on your hard drive. It will most likely be in your Downloads.
Double-click the install file to start the LockDown Browser installation wizard. You might be prompted by your computer to enter an administrative password in order to finish the install. This username and password would be something you created when setting up your computer.
Open LockDown Browser afterward to verify that it installed correctly and to get an idea of how the software functions.You can open LockDown Browser from a shortcut on your desktop or by searching your computer applications.
When it is time to take your test, open LockDown Browser, log into Blackboard, and navigate to the test in your course. Note: You will only be able to take the test through LockDown Browser - not through any other browser, such as Chrome or Firefox. If you open the test in a browser like Chrome or Firefox, you will receive a password error that will prompt you to open the test in LockDown Browser.
Click the download link for Respondus Lockdown Browser provided on the instructions screen for your quiz.During the installation, select Yes if prompted to accept programs from Respondus.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the install.
Students will have to have Lockdown Browser installed on their computers. Lockdown Browser is on the software loadset of the student computers. If a student is using their personal computer then they will have to download and install LockDown Browser on their machines in order to take a quiz or exam that is using the LockDown Browser security. Students without webcams can convert their smartphone cameras into webcams. Students will need to download both the application on their phone and the driver for their computer (Mac or Windows). For best results, students should plug their phones into their computers with a USB cable.

For Faculty: Respondus Lockdown Browser (LDB) is a secure browser for taking tests in Canvas. The lockdown browser is suited for taking tests in a proctored environment, such as in-class exams or in testing center. In order to take an exam using Lockdown Browser, students would need to install Lockdown Browser on their personal computers.
Be sure to download both the Win 10 / Win 11 - Direct Download and the Respondus SBU License installer. When they are both downloaded click on each EXE file in your downloads folder to run them.
The LockDown Browser is not distributed publicly, in order to access the browser instructors must share a download link with their students either in an e-mail or included in their syllabus. To find the personalized download link, navigate to the Respondus LockDown Browser course tool, then open Step 2 within the Getting Started tab. A template message is provided that you can copy and paste to send to your students, this message includes links to instructional resources as well as the download link for the LockDown Browser.
This download is unique to Stockton University, and can be used across all Stockton courses. If a student has already installed the browser from another institution, they will still need to download Stockton's LockDown Browser.

The iPad Edition of "LockDown Browser" available from the Apple App Store enables a student to use an iPad to take exams that require LockDown Browser. However, your instructor must first select a setting that permits the use of iPads for the exam. Your NOVA Online courses require the use of LockDown Browser and a webcam for some or all of the proctored activities and assessments. The LockDown Browser must be downloaded and installed on your computer. The webcam can be built into your computer or can be the type that plugs in with a USB cable.
Instructors have the option to enable LockDown Browser within the Quizzes tool in TCU Online. If enabled, students will be prompted to download, launch, and use the LockDown Browser in order to access the assessment. In order to use LockDown Browser, students must have the ability to install programs on the computer they will be using.
